IRON-R2 - The Film
Intensive Iron-casting workshop, Cork, April 2014

During April 2014 seven of Carmarthen School of Art had the opportunity to participate in the second IRON R in Cork, Ireland. The students included Lisa Evans, Nick Patience, Mared Davies, Megan Davies, Lewis Price, Andrew Willis, David Beattie and tutor Robert Harding and Technician Robert Booth. The 7 day symposium consisted of the Carmarthen students helping both Crawford College students and professional artists, both of which had little experience in casting prepare moulds and prepare for a large iron pour.

What's been happening in the Sculpture department?

As always the department is always busy and full of exciting adventures, the casting in particular needs particular attention and organisation. The last couple of weeks have been working towards the bronze pours for second year exhibition work and for the first year medals. The most recent iron pour consisted of a two day run due to the extent of moulds and molten iron required.
Our graduate Lisa Evans was selected as the sculptor choice for the Graduate Show in Oriel King Street Gallery, the exhibition continues until the 31st of December.

Re-Launch of Carmarthen School of Art

Re-launch of the Carmarthen School of Art which was the original school of art located in Carmarthen in 1854. The school is now the oldest art school in Wales and continues to produce fantastic and invigorating art. The evening was special and memorable with both past and present staff and students present and dressed in Victorian fancy dress for the evening.
